Stock Videos: Web Quality

I am currently working on a website that sells aerial stock photos and videos and the files can get up to 2GB in size for a 20-second video. All the videos are 4K so they are really big. We host these big video files thru Amazon S3 so that’s okay. But the website needs to host the preview images and we do not want them in Youtube or Vimeo so we choose to host it on our own, they are still connected to Amazon Cloud, helps with the speed but the videos are still big. So here’s what I am doing.

  1. Convert the MOV videos to MP4 using EaseFab Video Converter (same set up as original, do not put it in low resolution or high quality yet) so that I can put it in Adobe Premiere Pro to add the company watermark.
  2. Export the video in Adobe Premiere Pro with the following settings:
    • Format: H.264
    • Preset: Match Source – Medium Bit Rate
  3. Convert the exported video with watermark again and use the following set up:
    • Video: h264
    • Profile: MP4
    • Resolution: 768*576 (this is where I lower the quality, since our preview videos don’t need to be too big, we chose this as this doesn’t hurt the quality of our videos)

That’s it. I have my low size preview video. One example is that a 1.5 GB video went down to 7 MB without getting blurred or pixelated.
